Travel Experience to Sri Lanka
It was my first international travel to another country. I am a travelholic and always eger to explore new land. I cant be a Colombus or Vascoda gama who explore new destinations which was not found before. I explore the destinations which are mentioned in the magazines and blogs.
I found many intresting ads with attractive packages offered by various travel agents which I never want to use. I want to explore and travel with an undersigned travel plan which my friend also like.I booked two tickets in Srilankan Airlines
We started from Cochin International Airport on 1st August 2015 to Colombo Airport. It was a 1 hr 15 min journey. I flied above the Indian ocean.
As I reached the Bandaranaike international airport, Colombo. We took a room at Colombo and next we had the destination Nuwara Eliya.
Escaping the heat of Colombo and just driving up to the cooler climates of Nuwara Eliya was such a ‘cool’ experience! We really enjoyed our trip and we managed to see a lot. Here are my recommendations of things to do in Nuwara Eliya when heading to Sri Lanka.
The Tuk tuk of Sri Lanka
From the Balcony of Hotel, Nuwara Eliya
Known as the ‘Little England’ of Sri Lanka, this quaint little town was the hill retreat for the British who would spend their time here hunting, playing golf, polo and cricket. Many of the buildings still have a colonial feel to them like the General’s House, the Post Office and Hill Club. Some of the newer hotels have also been built in a colonial architectural style in keeping with the town’s heritage.
The climatic conditions and geographical features were same to same as Munnar – one of my favourite destination in Kerala. The climate was cool and was drizzling all over. We visit the sight seeing locations of Nuwara Eliya.
Gregory Lake really attracted me. Colonial architecture buildings beside the lake was very attractive. We had a boating experience in the Gregory Lake.
Next Destination was Bentota
Bentota is a beautiful beach town located in the western shore of Sri Lanka and is about 64 km south of Colombo, the capital city.We Stay at AVANI Bentota Resorts & Spa which is a 5 star property.
There are several white sand beaches and mesmerising lagoons. This lovely destination has excellent tourist infrastructure, very good hotels and ample facilities of water sports, para sail, windsurf, beach volleyball etc.

In this beach town two rivers namely river Bentota and river Maduganga meets the Indian Ocean, at two different places.
A boat safari ride in mangroves of Maduganga, with its so many islands, is a lifetime experience. Tourists may also visit these islands according to their interest. The largest island is called Ma doowa, and as told by my boatman, about 300 families still live within this island. The Kothduwa temple dedicated to Lord Buddha, is located in the most visited Kothduwa Island. Cinnamon Island is another very popular place to visit, where peeling of cinnamon and preparation of cinnamon oil is demonstrated to the curious tourists. The process of making rope from the coconut shells (brown fibre)is also demonstrated here.During this boat safari, visitors may also see different types of reptiles and birds such as monitor lizard & kingfishers
Later we came to Negambo
Negambo is also a beach area, the wide beach is so attractive. We just went for the beachside walk in the evening . Honestly Negambo didn’t attracts me a lot. I saw many real life faces at Negambo.
Overall, I loved my journey through Srilanka and came back to Cochin after a week.
